Comment
National Identities in the US/UK (MP possible) This course takes a sociological approach to understanding nations and national identity. Student will learn about national identities in the United States and Britain and how these have changed over time. In addition, students will analyze how factors like race and ethnicity, age, religious and/or political ideology and region contribute to one's feeling of belonging to a (national) community. By studying competing narratives on what it means to be American or British (and/or Mexican-American or Scottish or English), students will understand and be able to explain how national identities both influence and are influenced by current social and political developments. In this cultural studies course, all four language skills will be practiced and developed in context. Entrance requirement: OPT score of 75+
