Comment
Climate change affects everyone and determines a large part of our everyday practices. The different responses to the human-made threat, the degree to which it can be controlled, and the recommendations for action resulting from these considerations cut across all ideological and political fields. Nature-based spirituality not only works to re-evaluate stories of creation but is attractive to adherents from the left to the extreme right of the political spectrum. In this seminar, narratives on the Anthropocene and their religious dimensions will be put in relation to established religions from a religious studies perspective. After completing the seminar, students will be familiar with different responses to climate change and how the relationship between humans and nature is defined. They will be able to place current debates on this topic in a broader context using methods from cultural and religious studies. Students are expected to take an active part in the seminar, present a topic of their choice, and write an essay.
