Comment
This course is situated in the intersection of gender, peace and conflict studies. The goal of the course is to introduce students to the centrality of gender in conflict and peace building by providing them with an overall grounding in both conceptual and practice-based processes of conflict and peace. The course is divided into two broad section: the first half of the course will cover the conceptual grammar of gender in relation to the state, warfare, political violence, sexual violence and peace by examining key texts that have contributed to both the explanatory power of gender in peace and conflict studies as well as the role of gender in peace and conflict processes. The second half will focus on the gender praxis in peacebuilding and conflict-resolution by looking at the gendered nature of conflict and feminist and queer approaches to peacekeeping, including but not limited to, protests, resistance and reparations.
