Comment
This seminar delves into the heart of American social and cultural studies by examining the foundational myths that have shaped the United States' national identity. Using Heike Paul's seminal work, "Myths That Made America" (2014), students will explore and critically analyze the core myths that underpin the American ethos. The course's main objectives are the following: 1) to understand the historical and cultural significance of foundational American myths; 2) to foster a critical understanding of the United States as an imagined community shaped by these enduring myths; and 3) to connect the study of these myths to current social and political developments. At the same time, all four language skills will be practiced and developed in context.
