Comment
This course is about the reasons for growth and economic development in developing and newly industrializing countries, in particular about the influence of and the relation to the external sector of the national economy. We will look at the real economic aspect (exports, imports, etc.), but with a stronger focus on the monetary aspect, i.e. the inward (and outward) flow of capital, such as foreign direct investment. Country risks and the governance of states play an important role in this context. The latter also has a direct influence on economic development and may create feedback effects.
