Comment
This course focuses on the complex and ever-changing relationship between music and politics in the United States. Drawing on a range of sources from academia and popular culture, we will explore the ways in which music reflects, shapes, and challenges political ideologies and attitudes. In this course, students will have the opportunity to consider music from a variety of genres and periods in order to gain a more critical perspective on topics such as race, gender and class. At the same time, all four language skills will be practiced and developed in context. Entrance requirement: OPT score of 75+
