Comment
The United States is a vast country, in size and population numbers roughly the equivalent of Europe's. It has long been a dynamic engine of innovation, new schools of thought, inventions, etc. Still, born out of its historical development, a large segment of the US population remains "allergic" to science, liberality and even democratic culture. Given the nation's divided domestic public opinion - pitting one set of citizens vehemently against another - the perspectives of non-Americans are often more palatable than those of American's fellow compatriates. For that and other reasons, in summer 2023 TRACES Center for History and Culture's director - Uni Erfurt instructor, Dr Michael Luick-Thrams - will take the participants of StuFu WS 2023/23 on a (mostly) expense-paid tour of the Midwest with 2 traveling exhibits, one looking at previously "hidden or forbidden" social histories, the other at current-day climate-related issues.In the current StuFu (SoSem 2023) the students will accompany the Buseum-Tour in the USA and do ongoing work (press releases, evaluations, contributions in social media, publicity. foundraising; develop didactic material). The individual work steps will be developed and coordinated with each other. The meetings take place digitally. We are connected directly with the participants in the USA and discuss the weekly tasks and work. This process is also accompanied by an intern, Jonas Bertig. The access data for the StuFu are communicated via a Moodle room, which Prof. Dr. Jörg Seiler is setting up// NOTE: On Tuesday, July 4th, the StuFu will be held from 18 bis 22:oo, at Haus der Spuren, Unterm Berge 24, Bad Langensalza 99947—about a 15-minute walk from the train station in Bad Langensalza; the meeting on the 11th will be fused with that on the 4th, making a 4-hour meeting rather than the normal 2-hour ones. We encourage students to ride together from Erfurt to network. The StuFu will be held in English, German explanations can be given occasionally.
