Comment
The contributions of professional civil society and civic education to democracy in Germany and Europe, and to the European idea itself have been proven far and wide – but what is it exactly, how does it work and what chances and challenges lie in it in the year 2023? “Gamify this!” combines this introduction to non-formal education and project management with a critical evaluation of gamification and its uses. This course will serve as an introduction to concepts of gamification and the work & practices of European non-formal education, both as a tool for the teaching and promotion of Human Rights and as a potential field of work. Additionally, it will use the Democracy Game Box to introduce the students to game-based learning and allow them to gain first-hand experiences in non-formal education by using DEMOGAMES games. It is aimed at students from all disciplines and can be held in English or German. The course is structured as a block seminar with an introductory session followed by day-long blocks of sessions and an excursion.
