Kommentar
This intensive course is based on a hands-on project currently in development: One of the two course leaders (Dr. Luick-Thrams) and his Hausmate (a dean at this university) have bought a medieval house in Bad Langensalza, which the students will visit and help build the first two floors into a social-history museum. Students will develop their own tasks related to various aspects of literally building a small, non-profit museum and put them into action: for ex., distilling its focus, financing it (writing and submitting grant applications, creating a realistic budget and tracking funds), attracting and hiring staff, creating effective publicity, managing public relations, enhancing the website (www.TRACES.org) and expanding social-media presence in Germany and abroad, designing and staging exhibits, laying out and printing related books or other documents, organizing and administrating an archive, and so much more. In addition, the students will visit the city museum in Bad Langensalza, where they will learn about museum work and exhibition conception and also take on some tasks. We welcome your ideas and involvement, now and ongoingly! NOTE: After the initial orientation meeting on 14 October, the following meetings will all be held at Haus der Spuren, Unterm Berge 24, Bad Langensalza 99947—about a 15-minute walk from the train station in Bad Langensalza; we encourage students to ride together from Erfurt to network. The StuFu will be held in English, German explanations can be given occasionally.
