Comment
This course is the continuation of Parts 1 in WS 2020-21 and 2 in SS 2021, which reviewed social histories from the last three months of Nazi rule, the three-month occupation of Thuringia by American forces, and the first three months of the Soviet occupation. In Part 3, students and their academic advisors will process the contents of encounters with witnesses, collected during the first of three tours across Thüringen. Specifically, they will select for possible use those items or interviews, etc., representative of wider experiences. A core component of this StuFu will be that the students jointly decide which material to use and how to integrate it into our ongoing work, as well as to prepare to present the results to the public in an exhibition that will be shown a second time throughout Thuringia, as a pilot project. Special attention will be paid to comparisons between aspects of life under the three systems imposed by the three powers that ruled at that time, for example: governance, press and other media, social and cultural life, education, religion, economy, urban life, village life and agriculture, etc. This StuFu develops basic knowledge of exhibition design (formulation of exhibition texts, presentation in space/on panels, use of digital instruments, interaction formats, etc.) and applies it to the exhibition in an exemplary way. The project takes place in cooperation with pupils of the Andreas-Gordon-School/Erfurt. The course is aimed both at participants of the previous courses and at new participants.
