Comment
This seminar aims to prepare students to use English as a global lingua franca in different communicative situations in many different regions of this world. Authentic material from business interactions, service encounters and learning environments will be used to illustrate the features of intercultural communication. Research on English as a lingua franca indicates that it is essential for the success of intercultural encounters to develop listening comprehension skills for several non-native accents of English and to familiarise oneself with different writing styles for emails and short messages. The course will provide practical exercises for these situations. Students are requested to work on projects in small groups. Entrance requirements: OPT score of 75+.
