In many European countries, rising investments in security, defence, resilience, and geopolitical stability are increasingly being prioritised, sometimes at the expense of traditional development cooperation budgets. As a result, funding streams that have historically been central to GFA’s work - one of the leading European consulting firms active in the development cooperation sector - are coming under growing pressure. This creates both risks and opportunities for GFA Consulting Group. GFA does not engage in military activities, defence procurement, or arms-related work. However, many emerging donor priorities are closely linked to areas in which GFA already has relevant experience, including governance in fragile contexts, peacebuilding, civilian crisis management, local dialogue mechanisms, Women, Peace and Security, International Humanitarian Law, institutional capacity development, social cohesion, and security sector governance. The proposed capstone project would examine how GFA can strategically position itself in this changing environment while remaining aligned with its development mandate, values, and existing expertise.
