Comment
Iran is known in our times as a state ruled by Mullahs, a theocracy. But in the 1960s, it was a secular state under the Shah. The course deals with the fascinating history of the Iranian student movement (against the Shah), which was part of the global student movement of the 1960s, with a big part of it being based in Germany. The course will cover Iranian Marxist currents, the Iranian communist party, Tudeh, and the Confederation of Iranian Students in Europe, who saw themselves as progressive, anti-authoritarian, anti-imperialist, and pro-democracy.
