Data is now part of the policy toolkit. As governments and international organizations collect more and more data, policy professionals who can question it, analyze it, and draw their own conclusions have a real edge. Python has become the default language for working with data, from government agencies to international NGOs. This course teaches data analytics using Python to public policy students with absolutely no coding background. You'll learn to filter and analyse data, and build visualisations like histograms, bar plots, and scatterplots, starting from zero. The course is built around policy scenarios, not programming for its own sake. Using a real multi-country dataset on development aid, students investigate whether aid reduces infant mortality and how that depends on factors like regime stability. By the end, you'll move from foundational concepts in algorithmic thinking to hands-on data analysis, always anchored in real policy questions, and produce a short policy report combining code, analysis, and recommendations.
