Comment
The aim of the course is to explore and combine different methods and theories in archaeology, ancient history, philology, and religious studies and how they interact and support one another in view of different material. These we will then employ by looking at different case studies and evaluating how material and textual traditions interact to form a more comprehensive picture of the ancient world. At the end the students will gain means to approach different material and written sources from different theoretical frameworks. We will provide input in the form of frontal lessons coming from our expertise. Marious Kamenou (Ancient History/Greek Period), Veronika Kolomaznik (Classical Archaeology), Elena Malagoli (History of Religions/Ancient Near East), Matthias Scholler (Ancient History/Roman Period), Clemens Wurzinger (Classical Philology). The students will also be required to submit a short essay on a topic/object/image/text between 4 and 5 pages.
