Comment
The ways in which race and racism have explanatory power in international relations has predominantly been overlooked by the discipline of IR. The course aims to remedy this situation by focusing on the discussions on the significance of race and racism in the formation of the discipline of IR and in understanding international relations. There have been numerous works on race and racism in disciplines such as history, anthropology and sociology. The course will firstly discuss the insights of these works in understanding the constructions of race and manifestations of racism. The second part of the course will discuss how race and racism permeate our understandings of international relations at present.
